Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques 2011
Tasting Note
'The 2011 Lavaux St. Jacques from Domaine Rousseau was showing very well indeed in November, wafting from the glass in a deep and classy nose of red and black cherries, cocoa, a touch of the meatiness to come, dark soil tones, fresh herbs and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and shows off lovely mid-palate concentration, with excellent focus and grip, fine-grained tannins and outstanding balance on the very long and quite youthful finish. This wine is quite a bit more closed today than the Gevrey AC and closes with a fine note of bitter chocolate that I find augurs very well for its future development in bottle. This cuvée seems to have grown exponentially in quality in the last several vintages here and is really going to be superb in 2011.'
