Dujac Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Combottes 1999
Tasting Note
'In the small vertical of Combottes we tasted at the domaine, the 1999 was really showing its ripeness on both the nose and palate- but in a good way. The nose offers up a deep and blossoming mélange of red and black cherries, strawberries, mustard seed, a great, complex base of soil tones, woodsmoke, spice tones, incipient notes of sous bois and just a touch of wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and quite plush on the attack, but with good structure at the core and a fairly closed backend. The finish is very long, focused and shows truly exceptional transparency. A superb vintage of Combottes, that is not a bad drink already, but which I would emphatically counsel leaving alone in the cellar for at least another five years, as there is a lot more magic to come.'
