Charmes Chambertin

6 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2017
£300 per case of 3 bt in Original Case In Bond
93-96/100 Jasper Morris:'This is Mazoyères really but Cyprien Arlaud thinks he makes it like a Charmes, with quite late picking for tannin ripeness. In fact there are three picking dates according to the age of vines (25 to 75 year old) and some whole bunch vinification. Dense black purple colour and a richer attack to the nose. There is a solid succulent chunk of flesh, red plus fresh black fruit, an oaky aspect behind, very long finish, needing more time.'

12 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2018
£600 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
93-96/100 Jasper Morris:'This comes from the upper part of Mazoyères, alongside the Route des Grands Crus. A balanced fresh mid purple colour. Sweet pure red fruit through the middle with a fresh crunchy character behind. This wine has impressive density of fruit. As Cyprien says, the grander appellations have really held their own.'

12 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2019
£720 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
91-94/100 Allen Meadows:'Firm reduction renders the nose unreadable at present. There is however good freshness to the slightly bigger and richer yet still quite sleek flavors that possess focused power on the impressively precise, youthfully austere and quite serious finish. This doesn't have quite the same grace as the Combottes but it's definitely a quality effort as it's built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least half a dozen years of patience first while rewarding 15+.'

12 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2020
£720 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
95-97/100 Neal Martin:'The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, matured in 15% new oak, showed just a tiny morsel of reduction on the nose, that the concentration here was still tangible. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, taut and fresh and very precise. This has real class and verve, though it will benefit from several years in bottle.'

6 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2021
£125 per bt In Bond
30 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2021
£750 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
94-96/100 Neal Martin:'The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more "gourmand" on the nose, cohering with time in the glass, loamy, almost peaty aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-honed tannins. Lovely symmetry here, with a slight creaminess in texture towards the finish, where it feels very persistent. This is a lovely Charmes-Chambertin that should evolve wonderfully in bottle.'
6 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2022
£150 per bt In Bond
6 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2022
£900 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
93-95/100 Neal Martin:'The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, one of the last to be picked over three different passes, has a plush and expressive bouquet with dark cherries, raspberry coulis and light violet petal aromas that recede and reveal orange rind and yuzu scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry. It’s a solid Charmes-Chambertin that is Mazoyères in style because, well, that's where it's from! A serious Charmes-Chambertin that will age well in bottle.'
24 x Arlaud Charmes Chambertin 2023
£960 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
94-96/100 Jasper Morris:'Bright fresh purple. The nose has just a suggestion of chocolate on top of the raspberries. There is plenty of energy here on the palate, now some ripe cherries, not the most concentrated but with a fine long aftertaste. Has me reaching for another taste!'
Clos de la Roche

6 x Arlaud Clos de la Roche 2020
£900 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
93-97/100 Jasper Morris:'A relatively deep purple. The nose just shows a little bit of cooked fruit. More peonies perhaps and an interesting sombre dark fruit overall. I think this may be 14+ too (but it is not apparently). It comes over fresher on the palate and certainly with a most astonishing intensity. If the slight lack of freshness is a sample issue then this could be mind-blowing and a certain five stars. Fresh stems behind. Exceptionally long finish.'

6 x Arlaud Clos de la Roche 2021
£990 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
94-96/100 Neal Martin:'The 2021 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru has a slightly reticent nose at first, unfurling with white-tipped strawberry, cranberry jus and crushed stone aromas that become more vocal with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, fine acidity, fresh but unapologetically strict on the finish. This will need several years in bottle, but is very promising.'
6 x Arlaud Clos de la Roche 2023
£1,200 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
96-98/100 Jasper Morris:'Shortly before the harvest Cyprien marks up his premium vines which can be picked first. The others are picked a little later and then integrated, though a proportion may be (and in 2023 were) deselected. It would be hard to be much more meticulous than that! The 2023 Clos de la Roche shows a paler colour, with a fabulous nose. More savoury, yet very sensual, some blueberries, a very graceful perfume, a magical texture with more glycerol, perfectly ripe phenologically yet not overdone, a little saline note further back on the palate. Very complex, absolutely fascinating. Remarkably long.'
Clos St Denis

4 x Arlaud Clos St Denis 2008
£200 per bt In Bond
93/100 John Gilman:'Of the two Arlaud grand crus shown from the 2008 vintage at this tasting, I had a pretty strong preference for the Clos St. Denis, as it was raised in only sixty percent new oak, rather than the eighty percent of the Bonnes-Mares. As a result, the wine showed more freshness and soil tones in its aromatic mélange of plums, cherries, orange zest, gamebirds, coffee, mustard seed, woodsmoke and spicy new wood. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and intensely flavored, with a lovely core of sappy fruit, fine focus and balance, fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip. A classic bottle of Clos St. Denis.'

6 x Arlaud Clos St Denis 2013
£1,200 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
94/100 Neal Martin:'The 2013 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a compelling nose with red berry fruit, decaying autumn leaves, morels and light loamy scents. Wonderful. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut and crisp, and very focused with a sappy finish that contains a modicum of rusticity imparted by the growing season. Lots of character here, a wine that is drinking ideally now yet needs two to three hours of decanting.'

5 x Arlaud Clos St Denis 2019
£225 per bt In Bond
94-97/100 Jasper Morris:'Glowing, majestic, imperial in colour. This is a dense ruby fruit, double damask, opulent, hedonistic, but for me less fine than the Clos de la Roche. This is a gorgeous wine but I want the other one! This is heady but not heavy, very deep in flavour and extremely long.'

6 x Arlaud Clos St Denis 2021
£1,500 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
96-98/100 Neal Martin:'The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has what is often termed "transparency" on the entrancing nose, airy yet vigorous with lifted red berry fruit, petrichor and light citrus aromas. There's just a hint of reduction but minor. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, quite deep and intense, elegant and lightly spiced towards the persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. Unerringly symmetrical.'
6 x Arlaud Clos St Denis 2023
£1,650 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
95-97/100 Neal Martin:'The 2023 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru seems more detailed and articulates its terroir with more aplomb than the Clos de la Roche at the moment. There is brightness and energy, combined with complexity. After a few swirls, touches of bay leaf and tea leaves emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit and fine grip, slightly more viscous in texture than the Clos de la Roche, with a pinch of black pepper and graphite on the long finish. Superb.'
Bonnes Mares

3 x Arlaud Bonnes Mares 2019
£300 per bt In Bond
95-97/100 Neal Martin:'The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, despite a touch of reduction, is seriously complex on the nose with violet-tinged black and blue fruit that are amazingly intense at this early stage. The palate is medium-bodied with very succulent tannins that lend this Bonnes-Mares a velvety texture. The oak, all used, is perfectly integrated, an assiduous decision by Cyprien Arlaud there. It fans out gloriously towards the finish with layers to cassis and black cherry fruit and leaves with a dash of white pepper and bay leaf on the aftertaste. There is just the right amount of sapidity here. Arlaud commented that he is beginning to really understand the nuances of this vineyard. Proof of that is in the quality of this Bonnes-Mares.'

6 x Arlaud Bonnes Mares 2020
£1,500 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
96-98/100 Jasper Morris:'Rich very deep purple. The nose shows nobility. I thought the Echezeaux was exciting but it almost looks clumsy alongside. A harmony of dark ripe cherries and some raspberry. The palate offers a little citrus, tangerine touch. This is magnificently'

6 x Arlaud Bonnes Mares 2021
£1,800 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
96-98/100 Neal Martin:'The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is the last poured by Cyprien Arlaud, though curiously, atypically for this cuvée, aromatically, it is a bit obdurate at first on the nose, eventually revealing mineral-laden red berry fruit reminiscent of Roumier (Christophe). The palate is very well balanced, not powerful but surfeit with finesse and adorned with symmetry and poise. Seamlessly integrated oak with a long finish conveying the terroir to the max. Awesome. Three (and a quarter) barrels.'
6 x Arlaud Bonnes Mares 2023
£1,950 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
95-97/100 Jasper Morris:'Bright and even purple. An ever-increasing depth of ripe raspberry on the nose, yet with some stricter savoury qualities too. Seamless on the palate, unsure of which commune it lies in, close to giving the best of both. A cousin to Chambolle yet with marked Morey tendencies. The complexity continues across the palate (Morey) while the finish has additional sensuality (Chambolle).'
