Tasting Note
'The lieu à dit of Craite-Paille lies next to the vineyard of la Justice, just to the east and is the last villages level vineyard before one reaches the plain. The vines that Les Astrelles purchased the production from our sixty years of age and the domaine chooses to raise this wine entirely in used casks. The 2022 Craite-Paille shows off impressive youthful aromatic complexity in its nose of red and black cherries, dark berries, smoked meats, raw cocoa, dark soil tones, a hint of anise, incipient smokiness and a lovely framing of gentle oak from the older casks. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and nicely soil-driven, with a good core of fruit, tangy acids, buried tannins and fine balance and grip on the long and complex finish. This is one of the more structured villages wines in this lineup and will need a good decade of cellaring before it starts to drink with generosity.'
