Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "En Sylvie" 2022
Tasting Note
'The vineyard of En Sylvie lies up on the slope, due north of the center of town and on the Brochon border. The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin “En Sylvie” from Domaine Les Astrelles is another of their old vine bottlings of villages, as these vines are seventy years of age. Monsieur Millet chooses to age this cuvée in thirty percent new oak casks. The wine delivers a deep and refined bouquet, offering up scents of red and black cherries, red plums, gamebird, raw cocoa, a lovely base of chalky soil tones, woodsmoke and a deft framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is bright, focused and full-bodied, with a good core of fruit, fine soil inflection and grip, fine-grained tannins and lovely balance on the long, still quite primary finish. This will be a lovely bottle once it blossoms, but though it is very suavely structured, it is still a puppy and will need a stretch of cellaring before it blossoms and shows its secondary layers of complexity.'
