Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "Les Crais" 2022 (OCC/6)
Tasting Note
'The villages level vineyard of les Crais lies on the eastern side of the RN-74, right next to the better known la Justice vineyard. The Chapiers own three-quarters of the vines that go into this bottling, with the other quarter leased from a neighbor. The vines average forty-five years of age for this cuvée, with this wine having been given an élevage of thirteen months in thirty percent new casks in 2022. The wine’s aromatic constellation is nicely black fruity in personality, offering up scents of dark berries, black cherries, coffee bean, grilled meats, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and a nice touch of gently cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and still fairly closed, with a good core of fruit, fine soil transparency, ripe, buried tannins and excellent balance on the long, youthfully complex and promising finish. This will need a couple years longer in the cellar than the aux Corvées to really start drinking with true generosity. Good juice.'
