Gilles Barge Cote Rotie Le Combard 2008 (OCC/6)
Tasting Note
'This was only the second vintage ever produced of the Barge family’s Côte-Rôtie “le Combard” bottling, as the reclaimed vineyard’s vines had only come into production in 2007. It is a very good young wine, but not quite up to the quality level le Combard routinely reaches today, now that the vines are a bit older. The bouquet is deep, black fruity and still fairly youthful, offering up scents of dark berries, pepper, whole clusters, grilled venison, stony soil tones and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, tangy and still a bit bound up in its structural elements, with a fine core of fruit, good soil signature and grip, chewy tannins and a long, well balanced and nascently complex finish. This definitely wants a bit more cellaring time to blossom.'
