Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc 1996
Tasting Note
'When last tasted in the summer of 2004, this particular bottle of ’96 Clos des Mouches was showing signs of premature advancement from peroxide cork contamination. The nose was deep, complex and refined, offering up notes of buttered apples, lemons, clover honey, some Chartreuse like botanicals, chalky soil tones, a touch of vanillin oak and a topnote of fresh nutmeg. On the palate the wine was still bright and full-bodied, with lovely balance and a rock solid core of fruit. The finish was long and still snappy, but the flavors echo the bouquet in their development. It is not as advanced as many of the 1996 white Burgs that are on the fast track, but this wine is already wide open and should be drunk up in the next four or five years- briskly by Clos des Mouches standards.'
