Tasting Note
'The 1999 Vaucrains from Bertrand Chevillon is a great wine in the making, but it is still at least a generous couple of handfuls of years away from truly hitting its plateau. The bouquet is deep, black fruity and beautifully expressive, though still youthful, as it wafts from the glass in a mix of sweet dark berries, black cherries, a touch of new leather, venison, espresso, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and just a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and truly superb at the core, with lovely soil signature, blossoming complexity and a long, moderately tannic and still quite primary finish. There is so much more to come here that it is a crime to be opening bottles now, as there remains another layer of complexity that will emerge with another five to ten years in the cellar.'
